Hello there, this is my first time using this forum...actually my first time at any running forum ever.

Anyway, I have been running for the past 6 months, but only for my health. I lift weights 4 days a week and run the other three. I started with just a simple 2 mile run a day and that went on for the past 5 months because I had no desire to increase. But one day last month I decided to increase just to see if I could do it. I went from a 2 mile run to a 5 mile and it was a piece of cake. Then just recently I decided that I wanted to see how fast I could do it and I have been increasing every time I run. Here are the times:

3mi
27:50
25:45
24:30
23:20
22:45

5mi
45:45
44:32
43:47
43:02
42:30
*These times are from July 15th to August 6th

I know it's not a world record, but I think it's fairly good. But I have decided to run a 5k at the end of September and I was wondering how much of an increase I could make in that amount of time. I really want to take it to the max and see just how fast I could really go....and I don't want to be horribly embarrassed when I do the 5k. So any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for stopping by. Smile

Wow, I've never seen progressions that consistent and with that amount of time taken off with each chunk. Impressive.

The best I can figure is that you've barely scratched the surface and can probably get that 3 miler below 21 minutes by the end of the month, giving you a shot at a 20 to 21 minute 5k by late September.

As you get closer to the race, you'll want to back off the workouts a bit the last week or two. Testing your fitness is good, but you don't want to be fatigued when the gun goes off.
