I wear motion control shoes(brooks adrenaline gts 5) to correct overpronation(something I have a lot of), and I have usedorthotics in the past, but I red that gradually switching to only running in flats will improve one's form and speed, is this really so?

Flats do make you faster, but stress fractures make you slower Wink

Whether or not gradually switching to flats over time reduces the probability of injury, I do not know. Also, despite the fact that flats are much lighter, as an overpronator, a shoe that controls your gate cycle will make you more efficeint by eliminating sideways motin. Always remember that wieght is only part of how fast a shoe is. Sometimes the slightly heavier shoe is actually more efficient and therefore faster.

I also over pronate and have always been interested in ways to "cure" it, but there seems to be little info on it.

Following someone else's advice and experimenting with alternative footwear approaches long-term is a difficult thing to do safely and scientifically. I'd say, stick with what works.
