Mohamed Salman Al- Khuwalidi (Saudi Arabia) jumped 8.44 meters during the Islamic Solidarity Games in Mecca to establish the new Asian record in the broad jump.
Austra Skujyte (Lithuania) established new world record in decathlon, 8,366 points, during the track and field meet held at the University of Missouri in Columbus.

That is a great Long Jump result and that new World Best mark for the Women's Decathlon will do well for the event.

Perhaps with his new National Record of 8.44m, Mohamed Salman Al- Khuwalidi could possibly challenge Dwight Phillips, John Moffitt, etc. I hope he can keep up his good form through to August and beyond.

I got this data from www.pzla.pl or the web site of the Polish athletic federation:
During the years 2003 and 2004, Zdzislaw Kokot was the coach of Mohamed Salman Al-Khuwalidi. He helped Al-Khuwalidi within to improve from the legal P.B. of 7.91 meters to the legal P.B. of 8.12 meters, and helped him to improve in “five-jump from a stand” from 16.30 meters to 17.45 meters.
The athletes other P.B.s, according to Kokot, are as follows: rolling 40 and 60 meters, 4.12 and 6.04 seconds, respectively; 100 meters, 10.45 seconds, and 200 meters, 21.26 seconds.
The athlete is 192 centimeters or 1.92 meters tall and weights 79 kilograms or in the Anglo-Saxon system:
6’31/2’’ and 174 lbs.
Zdzislaw Kokot coached or part time coached other Arab athletes such as Ahmed Al-Sharfa (born in June of 1987), the bonze medalist of the world championships of the youth ('younger juniors') in 2003 -- he jumped 7.15 meters, and Hussein Taher Al-Sabee (P. B. of 8.35 m in 2004) when in Saudi Arabia. In the last case, most credit must be given to John Smith, since the athlete has spent most time in the United States, and practiced with the group of athletes coached by John Smith.
I will do my best to find out the current coach of Mohamed Salman Al-Khuwalidi.

Interesting I found this info - I was mixing up my Saudi's

Saudi Arabia's Hussein Al-Sabee are all experienced international competitors. Al-Sabee, who is coached by Powell, set a national record of 27-4.75 in finishing second to Phillips in Modesto.

That was the guy I remember being coached by Powell not Al-Khuwalidi

Hussein Al-Sabee -- I believe you. According to the www.pzla.pl Polish Athletic Federation, Hussein Al-Sabee spent most of 2003 and 2004 practicing with, mind my words, group of Mr. Smith. I believe that "group" is the key word, and that in reality, Al-Sabee has been coached by Powell on--one--on--one basis.

I believe that Hussein Taher Al-Sabee and Hussein Al-Sabee is one and the same person.
