Male 200m:
Wallace Spearmon - 20.10 US Indoor & Collegiate Record after going 20.21 (previous US Indoor & Collegaite Record) in the heats! Also Walter Dix (who I believe is still a Junior) running 20.37 (WJR) & Rodney Martin 20.38 finishing in 2nd & 3rd place respectively.

Talk about depth in the US Sprints! The 400m final is coming up...could we see a sub-45.20? Another note, if anyone knows, why did Carter get dq'ed? Thanks in advance _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

I have only just got word of this but; 44.57WIR from Kerron Clement in the 400m final...what more can I say?
http://www.iaaf.org/news/Kind=2/newsId=28846.html
Video of the race (follow the instructions given in order to downlaod it correctly):
http://www.trackshark.com/videos.php
For what it's worth, I believe if MJ had run a serious Indoor 200m race in say, 1996 (when he was in his best 200m shape) he could've have eaisly gone sub-20 on one the Fast tracks, and would've have put the record out of reach (as he did Outdoors) with something silly like 19.7-19.8...
I hope the Outdoor season can live up to the expectances that are obviously place atop of it following this year's great Indoor season...and people (not on these forums) said that Indoor Track & Field Athletics was on a downward spiral! _________________ Doubt whom you will, But never yourself.

Last year started a major swell of collegiate running, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down this year.

If my memory serves me right wasn't their an eighties sprinter also called Wallace Spearman. Any relation ?, it's not a common name after all.
In fact if I am correct he also specialised in the 200m,please can someone verify this in the interest of useless Trivia.
Dan, Conway... anyone ! |

On the subject of genetics, I cannot recall any time a child has gone onto follow their parents footsteps in track and emulate their success.
Idon't recall spearmon snr being very successful outside of the u.s if at all but it looks like junior will go much further. |

Lennox Miller -> Inger Miller?
I'd have to think long and hard after that one to come up with another example, other than regional/national level athletes...
Conway???

Yes, I missed that one.
I suppose the chances of following in the footsteps is always low as the same ability is not always there as well as the greater likelihood in having a different interest and in the case of us high schoolers and collegians the chance to go into pro-football, baseball etc is more appealing even if dad was NCAA 100m champ and son can manage a worldclass 10.0/10.1. |

Yeah, there's lots of examples in other sports, but top tier examples of T&F seem hard to come by. The lure of the "pro" sports is probably a big factor.

Hmmm ... Good question ... The obvious would be Inger and Lennox ... Warren Edmonson had a couple daughters that were very good in high scool but haven't done the same in college ... The Spearmons would defintely be the fastest combination ... One area that y'all have forgotten is the field events ... Michael Carter has a daughter that is tearing up the hgih school scene and should do the same in college ... That's all I can come up with off the top of my head ... Will have to think on this some more ... _________________ Conway

Wow, that really was a tough question if Conway has to think that hard!

Well sure, if only I knew he had a daughter, let alone one in the sport and doing well...
