Great job Ducks Fan. Exclamation

Sounds like the pacing strategy you used in your workout would be a good one for your next race. It is always tough when you go out too fast.

Huh, what was going on?

I always say I'm going to go out slow, but it's really hard not to get caught up in the excitement. Also, it hurts my ego when 8 year olds are ahead of me for even a few seconds.

My next race might be a three miler in about four weeks. If not that, I may do the Shamrock run in Portland in March. It would be pretty cool to run with over a thousand people. That would sure get the juices flowing.

Some people were started early and the times got screwed up as a result. I think they have them sorted out now.

I had my 10k yesterday and ran a near six minute PR of 40:48. I finished 5th out of 95 runners and was 2nd in my age group. Although it was, time wise, by far me best race ever (went through 5k 14 seconds ahead of 5k PR), I am kind of disappointed. I was unable to run the three days prior to the race because of a sore IT band that I didn't want to destroy. It felt good on race day, but those three days off hurt me. I went out in 6:10, which was about 30 seconds faster than I wanted to go out in. I know I am in about 39:30 shape based on a workout I had a few weeks ago. The first mile was in 6:45 and each successive mile was about ten seconds faster than the previous one, with the final mile in 5:50. I ended up covering the 8.1k course in 31:40.

So it's been a pretty good start to the new year for me. I still want to break the elusive 5:00 barrier and would like to go sub 10 and sub 18 as well. All I have to do is stay healthy...

___I wish that I would be able to run 10 K without getting mental fatigue and, most of all, at this pace. Congratulations.

Very Happy

Thanks. If it makes you feel better, I wasn't able to jog my time; the race was utter hell. I got a massive side ache with about a mile to go and it stayed with me for a good minute. That was the most pain I've ever felt in a race.

Great effort!! Your 5K could very well be sub 19 now.
Shamrock is quite the race. I ran 2 years ago, missed last year because of my foot injury. I plan on it this year. After a steady climb and rolling hills for the 1st two-thirds of the race, it ends with a mild downhill finish for the final 3 miles. You can really gather up some steam.

___I just have to put my mind into sleep--like condition to enjoy any race that is over 4 miles, . . . and the pain in a race like condition is certainly a factor.
___While, I am still in New Jersey, I will attempt to persuade the local USATF-NJ to include more one--mile races into the Mini Grand Prix for the shorter races.

Good to see you're still around here! A few weeks ago I did a 4k around Willamette's track in 14:23, which I think is worth around 18:20. As I said, I knew I was stronger than 40:48.

How are the 5k and 8k courses? Are they hilly too? I'll either do the 5 or 8. My last 15 caused me to miss about five months, so I'll stick to the shorter ones. Which one do you plan on doing?

Wow, it sounds like your fitness is really improving Will. And judging by your 4k time trial it looks like you have the ability to go well under 40 for 10k.

I'd like to join ya but it looks like I have two months of no running. Same problem as last year, only this time it's the left knee.
