I said it at the start of the Olympics about how it didn't quite feel like the Olympics...I thought it would it come alive when the Track and Field programme started...after the women's 100m it still felt the same...after the Men's 100m it was a little better...but I still waited for an explosion of something magical...but no disrespect to the athletes, but it never happened...

Was it the commercialising and advertising? Was it all the drugs scandals?

Again I ask is it just me or did this year's OG not feel like 'the real deal'?

I hope it doesn't go like this in 4 years time...the games needs the magic back...

As I stated in the Olympics in General thread, there was a lot to get excited about if you looked for it. Everyone must get excited or not based on their own personal interest. What the reporters said and how the crowds looked do not influence me. I found plenty to enjoy:

The marathons.

The Iraqi soccer team.

The US softball team.

Paul Hamm.

El G getting two golds.

The Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

And more and more and more......

As much as I still love the sport of athletics, i found the swimming and judo events quite entertaining even though Britain was not expected to feature much in these events, so it can surpass interest at a national level.
However saying that, I was on the edge of my seat shouting for both of kelly holmes races as well as the big upset pulled off in the mens relay.

Overall, it can sometimes be anti-climatic as one can get too involved in the outcomes and it does not fullfill the expectations that you buildupin your mind.

I like upsets and the unexpected such as that relay, as well as gatlins win when i was confident that it would be a powell and crawford affair, and both did not medal. And what about the mens marathon.

I was surprised by Liu's world equalling performance, and dazzeled by the womens polevaulting, but overall it will be Kelly Holmes double win which unlike El G was not expected.

From memory , my favourite olympics have to be 1980 for great memories (despite the boycott) because of the mens middle distances, and the great rivalry between coe and ovett. When you get competitive finals with several or more possible winners it makes for great drama, such as the mens 200m freestyle in these olympics between 3 great swimmers, Thorpe, Phelps and Hoogenband.

I was quite excited by Kelly Holmes. NR in the 1500 after all that racing and assuming she was very close to the NR in the 800 after two fast prelims. Am assuming the GBR NR is Kelly's 1:56.21. Biggest bust may have been Paula Radcliffe, who was a huge favorite in anything she wanted to enter. Ended up dropping out of the 10K, also, after leading at the 3000m point.

I was very happy for Kelly Holmes. She was on my first fantasy team. She is not on this years. Sad
