Great run by wariner to win the title and lead a clean sweep for the americans.

Fabulous time of 44 flat , elevating american 400m to its previous high standards.

MJ's running tips came in handy. Who better to ask than the great man himself.

The 1600m relay squad also show the promise of a fast time.

As a footnote, I would also like to mentions kelly holmes spectacular win to upset mutola and salvage pride for the British team after disappointment in the marathon.

Yeah it was a great result for Wariner. The fastest time for 4 years, since MJ's 43.84, which won him the last OG in Sydney in 2000.

Full Results:

1 USA WARINER Jeremy 44.00
2 USA HARRIS Otis 44.16
3 USA BREW Derrick 44.42
4 GRN FRANCIQUE Alleyne 44.66
5 JAM SIMPSON Brandon 44.76
6 JAM CLARKE Davian 44.83
7 FRA DJHONE Leslie 44.94
8 JAM BLACKWOOD Michael 45.55

WOW!!! The last time a USA clean sweep occurred in the 400m was in Seoul '88 when Steve Lewis (43.87) Butch Reynolds (43.93) and Danny Everett (44.09) went 1-2-3...

It was half a great race .... Top 3 were good (though Brew could have been better) ... But from there on it was rather average ... Guys like Francique and Djhone and Simpson didn't do as well as they should have given the gravity of the situation ...

But as I've said all year, Wariner is far an away the best quartermiler out there ... Though Harris made him work for it ...

Wish I had seen it... Wariner sure is a fun runner to watch. I'm not sure I've seen a smoother quarter miler.

Thanks for that link, Conway. Didn't watch the 400. That was a pretty long Zip file. Did watch the Pole Vault and the women's 100H start. I would say Felicien really turned her right ankle severely. I wonder if she will be competing any more this summer.

I felt for Felicien ... Imagine she and Gail were not in that race !!! And it still went in 12.37 !!! Incredible ...

Dan what did you think of Wariner's win ??

Haven't watched it yet, although I've seen a few highlight clips. Not at all surprised by the win, and only mildly surprised by the quality of the time. He seemed well prepped for that sort of performance in the first round. Very fluid runner with plenty of speed.
