Time for the sprints to start heating up ...

Tim Harden ran 10.25 yesterday in Arizona .. Can he get back to an elite level ???

Looks like Gatlin is going to be running the 200 at the upsoming Sea Ray Relays ... Any guess at an opening time ??? His training mate (Crawford) looked much improved indoors ...

Nothing at all yet from Tim Montgomery .. Isn't that a bit odd ?? He has an aweful lot to prove .. Marion at least competed on a limited basis indoors ... Something a bit off here ...

I'm expecting an explosion of quartermilers this year ... NCAA indoor was awesome ... The 4x4 final is available on TrackShark ... Watch it if you can ... The anchor by Williamson of Baylor (44.5) is simply awesome ... This guy could be the next real deal !!!

Drummond now training solo in Las Vegas .. Can he still perform at the same level without having Mo and Ato to train with ??? Speaking of Mo and Ato, any word on theiri debuts ??? Mo looked ok in his one race ... Ato has shown nothing ...

Gardener dominated indoors but has had to have hernia surgery already ... I don't see much in his outdoor future - again ...

Asafa Powell and Darrell Brown are going to lead the Caribbean charge this year in my humble opinion ...

Capel and Williams are training together again ... Good things always seem to happen when at least 2 star athletes get together ...

Who am I missing here ??? JJ Johnson ??

Nice to hear that Tim Harden is returning back to some kind of form.

I've a feeling that this year's sprints will bode well...exciting as always...I hope that the Men's 400m returns sub-44.00sec, but I can't see that happening in the near future, it's just a hope.

4x400m...I don't think USA will dominate this event this year...tough opposition from Jamaica...I think they will push them close...

Good call Conway...does anyone think Darvis Patton will be dominate this season...But with Shawn Crawford, Jon Capel, Shingo S and some other emergers in the 2, I think everyone will have their hands full...

I look foward to the season as always...

I think this will be a big year for the sprints ... I think we will see a full transition in all three sprints (ie those at the top will be mostly young) ... To be honest, I am not expecting Tim or Mo to make the team ... Just a gut feeling ... I would love for Mo to prove me wrong ... But my gut says we'll see an all new group in Athens ...

As for the 400, I don't think we'll see sub 44 this year ... But I do think we will see a lot of guys in the 44.2 to 44.4 range ... And then someone will break through next year ... Tyree Washington should have gone subb 44 already ... I think he is on the down side now ... Hope he proves me wrong too ...

I don't think that Patton will be the dominant sprinter ... Mostly because I don't expect anyone to dominate this year ... I do see a few guys clustered at the top though ... And I see the focus of talent shifting to Florida and Carolina ...

I disagree. I think that the US is going to continue her domination in 4 x 400 m. Not because there is One Great One, like MJ, or because individual runners' PB's add up to the lowest time (they may), but because the Young Wolves are willing to run near their best in every race, including relays, and because they want to prove themselves as world class athletes.

The US just has far too much depth in the 400 not to continue dominating the 4x4 ... And just from what I saw at the NCAA's this year I see no drop off ... We will put a team on the field that will run at least 2:57 in my opinion ... Everyone else will be happy to get 2:59 ...

OK ... So why is it so quiet around here ... Things have been hot ... Asafa Powell ran 20.10 this past weekend !!! Says a lot for his 100 ...

Jeremy Arainer ran 44.48 but was dq'd at the Big 12 meet ... Darrold Williamson ended up the winner in 44.79 ... He already has a 44.59 on the books this spring ... Baylor is looking VERY good right now ...

And this upcoming weekend will be a biggie - Modesto, Osaka, and Kingston ... Should have a real good view of the sprints by Sunday !!

Everything is pointing towards a great 200 field, but something will screw it up !!!1 LOL ... First of all the 100 comes is run first ... So disappointment and injury will take away some competitors ... That and the fact that some will train more towards the 100 anyway ...

And the US can only send 3 competitors, so the field will be lacking some top names before the Games even start ...

The 200 could still end up being the top sprint story of the games though ... Mostly cause of Bolt !!!! A sub 20 in the Games by Bolt (no matter what place he gets) will cause a HUGE stir !!!

On the women's side, I noticed Henderson doubled up in the UCLA-USC dual meet, 51.20 and PR 22.71. This is her best running in 3+ years isn't it?? After last year, I had just about written her off.

this is definitely her best running since the last Olympic season ... She's starting to show increased speed, which one would hope would lead to faster 400 times ...

I too thought that she was done ... Others such as Lashinda Demus and Sanya Richards have stepped up and moved past her ... Would be nice to see her show up at the Trials and perform well ... But it could be tough ... I expect a logjam in the mid 50-point area ... If anyone can go sub 50 they should be guaranteed a spot on the team ... All those at 50-point will be in a dog fight ...

Bolt has a supposed knee injury...I hope that doesn't affect his build-up to the Olympic Games...he has already run quite alot this year, and has had great exploits so early into the year (19.93s at Carifta Games, 44.4s 4x4 relay leg at Penn Relays)...

IAAF.org - Report:

http://www.iaaf.org/news/Kind=2/newsId=25120.html

Big meets this weekend, the biggest probably Modesto, Osaka and the Kingston (Jamaica) meet, (Conway, anyone else, have I missed another biggie???)

I believe Greene said he would be running in Osaka...hope that his injury has been rested, also hope at the same time that his body can hold-up for another year...want to see him competing at best again...don't want to see him over-race this year, like last year...

Also many other big names running in the Kingston meet, Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery and Maria Mutola to name a few...

Sounds pretty minor. If it were most any big name star, I'd assume they were just looking for a way out of running a low profile meet at home. I doubt that's the case with Bolt, though, unless his handlers have changed the battle plan after the 19.93.

The IAAF report said Bolt should be fine a couple of days after the meet ... Sounds to me as if he doesn't want to run this meet ... Not sure who is entered ... Collins is a decent 200 man, but not a world beater ... Perhaps someone else is showing up we are not aware of ... I don't think his people want him going head to head with anyone just yet ... At least that is my read on it ... I know I wouldn't want him to ... Let him show up in Athens with a bit of an aura around him ... would help off set his age and limited experience at this level ... Help give HIM a bit of an edge ...

Big big weekend on tap ... Mo, Capel, Williams, Montgomery, all in action this weekend ... Not sure who else ... I'll be going to Modesto so looking forward to a fast time on that track ...
