Some interesting results from yesterdays XC champs.

Charlie Gruber won the men's 4k in 11:14. Alan Webb was 8th in 11:31, Adam Goucher 23rd in 11:54 and Gabe Jennings 31st in 12:03.

Bob Kennedy won the men's 12K in 35:03 with Jorge Torres 3rd in 35:15 and Webb 4th in 35:21. These guys could suprise us at the worlds if they all go.

Shalane Flanagan wins the women's 4K in 12:26 and Melissa Buttry took 4th in 12:59.

Collen DeReuck won the women's 8K in 26:16. The O'Neill twins, recently graduated from Yale took 4th and 6th and Heather Hanscom (a former college teammate of the daughter's) took 11th. Hanscom won the Marine Corps Marathon last year in her debut marathon and will be running the Olympic trials in April.

Full results are at www.usatf.org

Nice win by BK. Interesting that Webb did so much better on the long course the second day. Must not have been going all out on the short course.

I wonder if Gabe gives wacky interviews after bad performances? Rolling Eyes

Missy Buttry still representing in fine fashion for DIII...

Webb said his spikes were too short for the muddy conditions in the 4K and he slipped a lot.

Gabe said......well.....we're still waiting on the translation. Embarassed

A couple of people from NM did pretty well: Janet Trujillo from Albuquerque ran 5th on the 4k course and Matt Gonzales from Santa Fe finished 13th on the short course.

Coachd was Matt Gonzales' coach during his freshman year!!!

Hammer, what do you think of the women's teams? Assuming they all go could we get another medal this year?

Repeating last year's 3rd place finish will be tough without Drossin, Dryer, Glusac and Wells. I don't believe that they have been adequetly replaced. Especially Drossin who was a monster. I always like Dryer because she is so solid and she ran DII (Western State, CO)

I do think that DeReuck and McGregor will do well.

As far as the juniors go I was surprised to see Ryan Deak (prep star from Colorado, formally of Florida) defeat Josh McDougal (prep star who defeated Galen Rupp a couple of weeks ago)

There are a lot of GOOD HS Boys running this year and I hope that they get plenty of opportunities to run against eachother.

I think this was a huge weekend for Alan. I think he is going to be a major Trials factor. I am wondering if he is, in the back of his mind, thinking of switching events.
With all the problems Kennedy has had, he's still hanging in there tough. There are going to be a number of events on both the men's and women's side that are shaping up to be exciting this Olympic year.
