Hey everyone, since we have been talking about 10m splits for a while, I'm goin into a new direction and then going back into 10m splits, after this.

I have been reading the previous 10m splits post started by X-King way back. And I have been thinking what is the fastest 4x100m leg you have analyzed or have seen?

I read about the 8.57s anchor leg by MO in 2000 at Berlin, and I think it was very possible, since Hayes ran an 8.6-8.7 anchor leg at tokyo in the 64' olympics, but only ran a 10.00s 100m in the same place, within a few days, I believe MO has gotten 8.57s, not only because he set the old world record of 9.79s, but also because he went after Curtis Johnson, who ran about 1/2 a second slower than Bernard Williams. And Maurice after that slower effort, had to make up the time. And since it was 37.65s (6th fastest ever), I think it was very possible he did it.

Feel free to give your opinions, answers, or criticisms on my post.

I look forward to hearing all of you.

Jason

I believe there's a thread somewhere in this forum discussing the fastest recorded relay legs...

Yea I think its part of the first 10m splits, section.

But I think thats the only place where it is.
Should I start it up again in that part, start it here, or not start up anything?

It's up to you. I generally try to keep related topics together, but it's often easier said than done. If it's part of another thread, no harm starting a new one.

Yea, I wanted to start a new one because, in the old one the posts about it are all scattered apart, so I figured start a new one that is organized, and the old one was very long so, its better starting a new one.

So everyone share your opinons on the first post of mine.

Including you Dan Laughing .

I know 8.8's and 8.9's have been recorded, but I don't recall what the fastest official split is.

X has it correct .... These are the splits listed on Larsson's site which as far as I know are the most reliable ... Unfortunately there are many sub 38 races which do not have splits for them ... So it is highly possible that there are splits out there faster than these ... I would think that 8.6 is possible ... Maybe 8.5 ... But I would think it would come from an elite (Hayes, Greene, Bailey) in a "chasing" mode ...

You're right Conway about the sub-38 relays, with no splits. It's a shame, becuase there have been some killer relays which were sub-38 4x1 relays that have never been analysed.
Example, 37.77s by HSI team at Berlin GP 2003 (this year) or 37.88s by HSI team in Austin 2001, where MO eased down about 15m from the line, and was celebrating before he'd even finished.

Well races that haven't been analysed by any kind of reliable source.

That's why I'm here!!! Very Happy

And what about Jim Hines supposed 8.2s from the Mexico City OG 1968???
I know Conway has discussed this before (with his thoughts on the issues that were going on during the games, and before the games. Racial equality amongst many other things.)

How reliable is this time??? Who timed it??? Were the hand-timings of any importance??? (Were they from the IAAF or any othermajor federation?)

I guess no one will ever know who timed it or if it was timed by the IAAF or any other major federation.

I think we have to dismiss it, because it isn't a reliable time, the timings could have been off. There are so many factors that, no one will ever know. Even if the people who did do it, they might not even remember. Neutral

Regarding the 1968 split for Jim Hines, I would guess that the split came from Track and Field News staff ... Most splits regarding the Olympics and now the World Championships, have originated from them ... Or a reliable source that they have felt confident in publishing ... And if that is the case it would be fairly reliable ... Still a bit questionable given how fast it is ... But not taken by someone with out adequate timing skills ...
