The USATF 100 mile championships started at 10:00 AM eastern time in Toledo, OH. As of this posting Eric Clifton of NM is leading the field and has gone through 26 miles in 2:47 and change. He is hitting a 6:30 per mile pace and is quite a ways up on the rest of the field. Kevin Setnes of WI is second at a 7:35 pace and there is a pack at 7:37 pace that includes Mark and Stephen Godale.

Connie Gardner of OH is running at a 8:03 pace and is leading the women's field by 3 miles. I'll provide more updates as they come up.

Clifton is slowing down at 34 miles and Timothy Clement is leading the pursuing pack along with the Godale brothers. Setnes has dropped to a 8:01 pace but remember...the race is only one third over.

Gardner still has the ladies lead by two miles.

BTW, the course is a one mile loop around a lake at Olander Park. This race is being run in conjunction with a 24 hour race.

A half hour lead 1/4 of the way through the race? Surprised No wonder he's slowing down!

The website where I am getting the updates is www.americanultra.org and they are reporting that when Clifton realized he wasn't going to break the age group record for 50K he slowed down. Clifton, Setnes and the Godale brothers are big time ultrarunners so this should be a great race.

Timothy Clement holds the lead at 41 miles and is the only runner under 8:00 pace. Michael Ryan has joined the Godale brothers one mile behind Clement and Clifton has dropped well off the pace.

Gardner is leading the rest of the women by almost 5 miles.

The weather is hot so records will probably not figure into the picture today.

Running 100 miles at 82 years of age? I bet he had to sign a pretty lengthy medical waiver...

But don't think you can signifcantly gain on Conway with some weefy updates, here!! I'm expecting some major writing here, like you will find in Rambling Runners on my race today, after I pop open another Oatmeal Stout. Razz Thumbs Up

Clements wins in 14:01:01 for a 8:25 pace.

Gardner is top female in 16:22:15 for a 9:49 pace.

82 year old McNelly does 35 miles in 22:40:19. Ain't it great Exclamation
