That was a great race ... Guevara was awesome ... I think she can go mid 48's ... The depth behind her was good ... Russia ALWAYS produces quarter milers .. Fenton ran a great race ... Mbacke seems to run well in the big ones ... Too bad we can't produce any q-milers worth a hoot ... Been about a decade now since we have really produced any ... Not sure what the problem is ... Other than the difficulty in getting young sprinters to move up ... _________________ Conway

I still think Richards has a lot of potential. She's got the ability and the race smarts, despite apparently forgetting to run the last 40m in the quarterfinals...

That's' ONE with potential ... Where are the others ??? I remember when we had several sub 50's at the same time !!! Now we are excited about a young girll running sub 51 ... We are getting weaker from 200 on up ... Not good .... _________________ Conway

True, but other than Russia and Germany up until recently, I don't see many other countries producing multiple top 400m women. Mexico's second is nowhere to be seen, yet Guevara makes them look mighty strong. (I just met a Mexican soccer coach last week, and he said Guevara is a national treasure.) It only takes one... Freeman for Australia, Perec for France.

None of the other countries have our resources either ... We have greater depth of talent ... Greater depth of coaching ... A huge collegiate system ... Ourt results are woefully inadequate ... Russia is small now compared ot what it was when whole ... Yet they continue to produc sub 50s ... They had THREE in the final ... We had ZERO !!! There is a problem there ... _________________ Conway

I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that Richards ups the ante for anyone else wanting to be competitive in the US.

We need to be looking at some of these 11.3x and 22.7x sprinters ... Try to get a few to move up ... Only takes two or three to turn the whole ting around ... _________________ Conway

Do you see any with good 400m potential? Seems like a lot of the top US collegiate women's sprinters are of the large, stocky build. Although, if that sort of physique can make it in the 800m (Graf, Mutola, and many others), it can probably make do in the 400m, too.

Off the top of my head no ... I'd have ot look at a list or two ... But our best ever - Cheeseborough and Brisco and Torrence were all power sprinters ... _________________ Conway

Maybe on her comeback trail, Marion will decide to move up. |

She'd certainly shake things up in the 400, but I don't get the impression she likes it all that much. Of course, when it comes right down to it, who really likes the 400?

This is gonna sound weird ... But I hated the 400 but I LOVED running the 4x4 !!!! Don't know why, but I got a rush out of the relay ... _________________ Conway

Doesn't strike me as weird at all. That's a pretty common sentiment.
