hello, i have been running both short distance and long distance and i was wondering if training for long distance might effect my short distance running and vice versa. do you think that improving long distance running might slow my maximum leg speed down?

If you do only long slow distance then you will become a long slow runner. Training is very specific. But if you do long slow distance and short interval work then the interval work will help keep the leg speed. Probably the thing that is most important is deciding what event you are going to run and train specifically for that event. So having said that, what are you competing in?

i run for the sake of running, i try to enter any events and distances that will push me mentaly and physicaly. i try to train long distance 2k-3k everyother day, then sprinting training inbetween. i dunno my reason for running really, just gives me a good feeling.

Given that, I'd say just do whatever training feels best at the time. If you don't have any specific goals or primary race distances, then there's no reason to limit the sort of training you do.
