Hi everyone.
It's been a little while since I've posted here, but I'm back. Curently doing my summer training regiment, and I had a question about the heat.
When the air gets extremely hot, it becomes less dense. When flying airplanes, and to a lesser extent racing cars, there is a factor known as density altitude. This is the alittude adjusted for temperature and baro. For example, today in my town the temperature was around 100 or so, and the density altitude was about 7,500 ft. The actual altitude above sea level is 4,500.
So does this mean training in such heat gives one the same effect as training at higher altitudes? Did my body really think it was at 7,500 ft as far as the amount of 02 present per breath?
Kind of technical, I know, but has anyone ever studied this? |

Welcome back Jafar.
I've never heard of density altitude. Does the amount of humidity affect it in any way? I would think that high humidity would still make the air feel dense. Am on the wrong path there? _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

Hi Jafar!
I only know air density as it relates to lift in aircraft. We used to have a saying: "Summer Flying, and Summer Not". Ya did not get enough lift in our helo's when the air was too thin. I know running in the heat in Texas was rough at best, but I just did a 5k in Maine in the 80's and it was not too bad. BTW thanks for the PM's Glad to see you found a "home".

That's a new one to me. I would think the heat air density and altitude effects are not the same from a physiological standpoint, but no good explanation is coming to mind to support that gut feeling.
