I've been lifting weights for the past 2 seasons and truly enjoyed the results. However i have not done any weights with my legs, what are your thoughts, would it help ?? could it hurt my preformance ?? I'm a junior in HS , as a soph I ran 53.6 in the 400 and 2:05 in the 800. so i'm certaintly not a sprinter, the guys who do most the weights. SO, would lifting weights with my legs help or hurt.

Weight work for the legs will help any runner, not just sprinters. The key is the manner in which you lift, i.e. high weight/low reps vs. low weight/high reps -- the same principles apply for upper body as for lower body.

For a mid-distance runner such as yourself, you should be aiming for an even balance between strength and endurance. In terms of weight work, this usually means sets of about 10 reps of each exercise.

Hope this helps,
Dan
