400 meter training question? Please be specific

I have a girl athlete who will be coming out of basketball in about a month and will be preparing for track and would like to know some training programs for the 400 meters. She will need to be prepared when meets begin in late march to be conditioned to run maybe 3 different 400 meter races in meets.
Assuming she is in basketball condition, what type of training would be beneficial at this point to prepare to decrease her 400 time as the season progresses.
Saying she can run a 60 second quarter now what type runs should she be doing know and the weeks prior to meet season and during the 12 week season. Speed would indicate a faster 400 run with conditioning.
For example if she wanted to run a 57 quarter what pace and distance training should be used.
Please be specific using a detailed plan

Two things:

1) Basketball is very good conditioning for the longer sprints, assuming it isn't walk the ball up the court type play (and practice). A bigger challenge than getting her in track shape will be resting her up from basketball.

2) For relatively small differences in time (i.e. not totally different levels of competition), there needn't be any real change in training approach. I would approach 57 second goals the same as 60 second goals, just with appropriately faster intervals.

I don't see any point in talking workout specifics without knowing what you've done up till now with her and what she has responded well to... Just shots in the dark, otherwise.
