Just watched it. I hate to say I told you so, but... Neutral

Dan

I'm liking his chances more than I did a month or two ago, largely because he's done pretty much what I said he needed to in ...

Alan Webb just missed qualifying for the second round. If you missed the race, he finished ninth in his heat to miss getting to the next round by 0.11 s. He was running in the outer lanes the whole ra ...

I don't think Browne was necessarily moved up. He's been largely a 10k/5k guy since college, mixing in the occasional 1500 and only recently extending beyond the typical road race distances.

Dan ...

Haile G.? He was smiling when he passed Tergat in the Olympic 10,000 m finals, even though he was sprinting his guts out.

Dear Clyde,

Judging by the Grecian ability to meet deadlines, my guess is somewhere between a minute prior to the first event and several hours after the Olympics are over.

He was definitely out of sorts at Michigan. It's amazing how far that set him back.

Webb is behind all those guys in racing savvy too, since he is younger and much less experienced with competing in world-class meets. No one is predicting that Webb has any chance to medal except some ...

Or possibly the 3000 m steelechase Very Happy If he does stick with Salazar for several more years, I'd bet anything he becomes a 5k/10k/XC guy.

Reason I say that is after seeing how he moved Dan Browne ...

Seeing as how the 800m was (is?) your main event and you coach collegiate track, I wouldn't exactly put you in the "unqualified to give advice" category... Cool

My two cents:

A knowledgeable coach will help immensely. You have an aggressive goal. If your HS team coach is not experienced with coaching middle distance, you should find someone else locally . ...

I wonder how much of a correlation there is between running and reading adventure/fantasy/science fiction. My top five:

1. Hobbit/LOTR - Tolkien
2. Chronicles of Amber - Roger Zelazny
3. New and ...

My prediction is that Webb will get top nine, but will not medal, which would be the best an American has done in a long, long time.

It looks extraordinarily difficult for him to medal since there ...

It will be interesting to see what he settles on as his main event post-HS, since he also runs an extremely fast mile, and I believe has the 3000 m HS record as well.

And isn't Rupp coached by Albe ...

The most beneficial amount of easy mileage depends on your propensity for injury, primary running surface, work schedule, and many other things. Building up to between 30-60 miles/week is a reasonable ...
